The Road to Decode Leads to the Library: How Librarians can be Better Resources for Families of Struggling Readers:

Description: Imagine a world where parents of struggling readers go to the library and librarians recommend resources that help all children learn to read. Perhaps caregivers take a child to a library and learn that—using games, activities, and the right resources—their child can actually start to read basic words. Reading issues are common, and no one is spared. The statistics on struggling readers tell a dramatic story: Sixty-four percent of fourth graders are not proficient in reading. The International Dyslexia Association estimates that reading issues like dyslexia affect one in five. Fortunately, with the right approach to instruction, Ninety-five percent of children can become skilled readers. This course will enable librarians to take that first step towards offering families of struggling readers hope and guidance, and becoming a better resource for more of the community.
