Get Involved

We’re thrilled to have you join us in spreading awareness about proven ways children can learn to read at home, at their local library, and all places where children play and learn in your community! You are part of the first widespread movement to help libraries better serve families of early and striving readers. We invite you to learn more about joining our Board or volunteering your time to further our mission to help all kids learn to read.

Join our Board!

Teach My Kid to Read (TMKTR) is the first and only nonprofit to work with public and school libraries to provide equitable access to resources that support literacy for all. TMKTR creates awareness about resources of decodable books, provides library staff education, and assists with access and operational support, so libraries and schools can create collections of decodable books and literacy hubs. TMKTR works through libraries and schools, serving districts and communities through individual donations, fundraisers, sponsorships, government funding, grants, E-commerce, and fee-for-service. The long-term outcome of TMKTR’s work is to create awareness and meaningful access to decodable books, helping all kids learn to read.

Board Purpose and Responsibilities

The purpose of the Teach My Kid to Read Board of Directors is to help the organization pursue its mission to support public and school libraries and staff with the information, skills, and services they need to fill a resource gap by providing equitable access to decodable books that support improved literacy for all.

We’re seeking board members who will be engaged partners as we continue to grow the first widespread movement to work with public and school libraries to create systematic change to improve literacy. Accordingly, the board provides oversight of finances and programming and supports strategic planning and fundraising. This opportunity is a volunteer position. • Willingness to commit to three years of Board service.
  • Willingness to accept assignments and complete them thoroughly and on time.
  • Willingness to commit time for quarterly board meetings and other events that support the organization (10-20 hours per quarter).
  • Willingness to participate in TMKTR’s fundraising efforts by actively seeking new donors (individual and/or institutional) and stewarding current donors.
  • Recognizing TMKTR as a top three priority for personal giving and willingness to make a meaningful financial contribution each year.
  • Willing to promote the purpose and agenda of TMKTR through social media and other marketing channels.
