Phonics

Phonics instruction is the direct, explicit, and systematic teaching of letter–sound relationships and how to blend sounds to achieve correct pronunciation of a word. Phonics decoding is the ability to recognize familiar words quickly and to sound out unknown words using the knowledge of letter–sound relationships. At TMKTR, we firmly believe that if all children receive systematic phonics instruction at the classroom level, fewer children will need special education and intervention services in school.

Decodable Texts

Decodable books are the link between teaching children to decode words and applying that knowledge to connected text. The best decodable book series have a scope and sequence that explicitly covers the full spectrum — from basic decoding to advanced decoding of multisyllable words.
